What happens to a payment, in order.

The sequence below is the settlement path, not a marketing abstraction. Money movement runs inside the database under locks, so the platform cannot credit a balance that a payment did not fund.

  1. CREATED

    The buyer pays and the order opens

    The payment is captured and the order is created in the same transaction. Nothing is credited to anyone yet.

  2. HELD

    Funds sit in escrow, not in a balance

    The amount is locked against the order. The platform cannot spend it, move it, or credit it early, because the balance is only computed under a row lock at settlement.

  3. DELIVERED

    The buyer receives the files immediately

    Delivery does not wait on settlement. Access is granted the moment the order opens, which is why escrow protects the buyer rather than delaying them.

  4. DISPUTED

    A dispute freezes the money, not the delivery

    Opening a dispute pauses settlement and routes the order to moderation. The funds stay locked until an operator releases or refunds them, and every decision is written to the audit log.

  5. SETTLED

    Escrow releases and the ledger records it

    The fee is deducted, the remainder is credited, and both sides get a receipt with each line named. This is the only moment money changes hands.
